Bust-ed

Well the meet & greet was a bust. No one materialized. However, a nice young man who works for the airport was able to help get me thru the lineups in time to check my bag. I gave him a good tip and got a refund for the no-show.

It looks very dry down below. The clouds are fluffy and low - they seem tethered to the earth.

Bust 2: the cabin I booked last December has turned out to be a tent. Completely the fault of my cycle tour company, not the lovely people here who have to put up with my annoyance.

The good news is, I’ll get a refund.

The bad news is, it’s a tent.

The lovely young woman who escorted me to my “not-a-cabin” didn’t pick up on my sarcasm when I asked if it was air conditioned. There is a fan, cots, bedding, lots of recharging ports and wc + showers nearby so quite luxurious as far as tents go.

Bust 3: the breakfast cruise I booked was a no show.

Bust 4: the lunch cruise my resort tried to entice me with instead, is minimum 2 people.

Bust 5:  I forgot my bike helmet in the cab yesterday and almost had a panic attack. No helmet, no ride. Fortunately I took the driver’s name and number yesterday so have now been reunited.

Bust 6: there is no bust 6…but it’s only 8am.

There a serious fence around the resort - looks barbed and electrified around the top to keep baboons etc. out. But did not keep the cutest little mob of banded mongooses.

Spent an hour getting a sim set up - everyone is super friendly and so-so in efficiency. I obviously have to change my gears.. Victoria Falls is a dusty little town of about 4K built to serve the adventure tourist. Unike the rest of the country, it is very safe for tourists. Special tourist police abound, each sporting a cheery smile and a serious looking machine gun.
Skipped over the roadside chatchka stalls and had a wander thru some galleries and a an awesome little museum collection of traditional Zimbabwean artifacts. Bead work is a speciality here. Picked up a little cock-eyed zulu angel.

  2. Oh wow - there you go again. I guess this means we aren't having lunch anytime soon. But i'm looking forward to following your travels.

So that's a tent is it? I love the banded mongooses. I suppose they are the raccoons of the 'hood. Personally I would prefer all zulu angels be cock-eyed. Good choice.

Can't wait to hear more about the plans that do go according to plan. - Heather.
