Sesriem
The stars were magnificent this morning at 5a. The moon had set and i saw the milky way for the first time in a long time. The oryx wandering around last night was nowhere to be found.
At end of leg one, there were 3 hot air balloons.
Really fantastic to be cycling with these red dunes on either side.
Dune 45 is named based on its distance from the park gate- apparently it’s moved to kilometre 46 since being named.
I only went part way up dune 45 as I wanted to spend more time and energy at Hidden Vlie which is similar but smaller than Dead Vlie which was featured in the movie Samsara. I also passed on the last 15 km so i could spend more time taking vlie pics. It was a searing 2 km out and a climb down a dune (and therefore back UP a dune to get out) and a 2 km hike back. I was heading back up the dune when the rest of the crew arrived and had welcome company for the walk back. It was worth every drop of sweat - even with sand-filled socks!
No one opted for cycling back so we had the afternoon off to de-sand followed by a hike at Sesriem Canyon before dinner.

I think you are really on the moon.
