Morning revealed lots of quirky landscaping and old metal sculpture reminiscent of Mutonia on the Oodnadatta Track in Australia.
Best sign of the trip so far:
Today was another day of rolling hills on sandy gravel with beautiful scenery all around. Because I was stopping for photos I fell behind and had to hop on the truck to catch up. Ostriches and oryx today and a little ground squirrel at the T intersection/break stop. At the T we headed south to the Tropic of Capricorn photo stop - the tour bus crowd was astounded at the cyclists.
Then it was back on the bus and off to the tiny town/gas stop at Solitaire which featured a nice bakery with real espresso coffee and the aforementioned “best sign.” A cute little mongoose scavenged for crumbs as we had lunch.
There were more kms to cover after lunch but gave it a pass due to heat, sand and washboarding. I saved myself for that last 12 kilometres to the camp site as it was flat, tarmac’ed and, disappointingly, had a strong headwind. I prevailed and rewarded myself with a cold Radler. Nice beef stew for dinner - lots of meat on this trip but not much veg. Was thrilled to find a piece of broccoli.

Capricorn is my sign but it looks good on you - over you.
