Cape of Good Hope

Our hotel is in a nice location on the edge of the very touristy (and safe!) V&A district at the port. They are renovating their kitchens and have moved their breakfast service to a trendy coffee shop across the canal - I finally got my avocado toast for breakfast!

Today we headed south to Cape of Good Hope but first, penguins at Boulder beach.

I have now seen all penguin species in their natural habit with the exception of the galapagos penguin.

There were also tons of Rock Hyrax - who seem to rival rabbits in the reproduction department…and they climb trees!

Pressing further south we had a photo op at the end of the continent and a hike up to the lighthouse.

Vegetation here hugs the ground and there is an amazing array of greens with bursts of yellow and purple flowers.

Starting at the bottom of the lighthouse funicular, we were back on the bikes for a mostly down hill ride to our last lunch laid out at the visitors’ centre. Not enjoying having to share with cars but they thinned out quickly.

There was a very cool tree.

Then the ride on was uphill with a tail wind and down hill with a head wind so I was fine till the road got narrow and the cars got thick - riding in Toronto-like traffic is no holiday so it was time to end my African cycling…and also there was a little reality check as we passed a township.

The past 3 weeks just flew by - my eyes are full… and I completed about 750/1000 kilometres so feel pretty good for that given the heat the and the headwinds!

A lovely send off dinner at Karibo completed the evening!

..and i bought the t-shirt!
